The Wine House 1821 is all about the wines. Wherever you look, you are surrounded by wines or items related to it. There are over 30 wines by the glass and 100 by the bottle to choose from, making it the perfect spot for wine enthusiasts.
The Wine House 1821 was created by restaurateur Sep Marni & Italian wine producer Michele Zonin, who wanted to bring to Edinburgh city centre a completely new concept blending visionary design matched with an outstanding collection of Italian wines. 90% of the wines are from Zonin’s family estates in Italy, but you’ll find some carefully selected exceptional wines from US and Chile. If you’re not a wine lover, they ’ve got a great selection of spirits and Italian beers plus innovative cocktails that are certainly worth checking out.
The Zonin family have been Vintners for seven generations with their roots in the heart of the land and vineyards in the hills of the Veneto region of North Eastern Italy. They have been making wine since 1821 and own almost 4,500 acres of vineyards, divided among 11 estates in seven of the country’s most highly regarded winemaking regions: Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli, Tuscany, Apulia and Sicily. Zonin also owns the Barboursville Vineyards winery in Barboursville, Virginia, USA and is renowned for making wines that highlight the exclusivity of their terroirs, varietal characteristics and – ultimately – the personality of each individual wine.
The Wine House cleverly combines Georgian heritage with a contemporary twist and minimalistic modern design. The sophisticated interior has been designed by award-winning architect Claudio Silvestri, who decided to create a library of wines and wine-related books, simple wooden tables and an illuminated bar.
All featuring wood has been imported directly from Italy to make the customer’s journey through the finest Italian wines even more authentic.
If you feel peckish, you can just nibble on delicious olives or freshly baked bread, however, The Wine House offers wonderful food boards featuring fine Italian cheese & charcuterie which are available as small and larger plates.
The Wine House also offers 4 glamorous bedrooms, modern cocktail bar and a spacious event suite, so whatever the occasion, the venue delivers an unforgettable experience. Wine tastings and masterclasses are organised twice a month, for more information and dates, please follow The Wine House 1821 on social media.

We tried 6 wines carefully selected by the sommelier.
Cantina casal farneto verdiccio classico doc 2015
Elegant, harmonious, soft, full-bodied with an almond aftertaste
Aromatic notes, very pronounced floral and fruity aromas, like white flowers, Summer fruit, almond and broom.
Cantina Santa Maria la Palma Aragosta DOC 2015
Tastes: Dry without roughness, fresh and slightly lively, very arminic, with measured almond background rightly persistent. This wine goes well with fish dishes and particularly with shellfish.
Castello di Albola, Chianti Classico Riserva 2014
Chianti Classico Riserva has a full garnet-red colour. The nose is ample with delicate fragrances of red fruits, violets, irises, licorice, wood spice, and earth. The palate is full and balanced, showing notes of almonds, tobacco, toasted wood, bright red fruits, sweet herbs, exotic spices, and delicate minerals that lead to robust tannins and a long finish.
Zonin Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Doc
Brilliant, attractive and warm ruby-red colour.
Ample and remarkably complex, with vinous and characteristic tones.
Dry on the palate and gracious, with delicate and soft veining, a fine and harmonious balance.
Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2014
Sweet cherry aromas. Medium body, delicious in the mouth but short finish. The taste is so good that the short finish makes you drink more.
A balanced wine, nice red ruby color with brownish reflections, persistent taste of strong berry and slight spice flavours.
Zonin, Cuvée 1821, Prosecco NV
Zonin Prosecco is a varietal wine made from the Glera grape, which is native to the Veneto region. There, the Zonin family owns the largest Glera vineyards in Italy. It is from these vineyards that the fruit for Prosecco is sourced. This control over all aspects of the production, from vineyard to glass, allows Zonin to produce the freshest Prosecco on the market.
Event space available for weddings, meetings, funerals…
We loved the idea to let people taste and enjoy the wine and the venue certainly offers a magnetic setting for any occasion, delicious sharing plates, innovative cocktails and an unrivalled collection of wines & champagnes, with fantastic customer service.
The Wine Library has proven to be very popular in the capital and there are already plans to open another venue in Sao Paolo. Zonin has high hopes as the Wine Library project will be widely rolled out amongst restaurants, hotels and other spaces which will host a Wine Library in their existing premises.
