Handi, an exciting new Indian restaurant opens in Glenrothes

Handi, located on Woodside Road in Glenrothes, opened its doors to the public last week following a £200k investment, bringing new life to the building which was previously the Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant.

Designed for comfort, relaxation and the enjoyment of food, drinks and conversation, the 80-seat dining room and 20-seat private dining room reflect modern India, with a nod to cultural traditions and motifs.

The official launch last week, saw a selection of local journalists, bloggers and invited guests, who sampled a modern take on Asian cuisine

Guests were welcomed in true Indian style, by Indian dancers from Dance Ihayami Scotland in full regalia, who later gave a dance performance to mark the opening of the new restaurant.

Representatives from the local community were there to mark the official opening, including Provost Jim Leishman, Kingdom FM, a local girls football team from the Glenrothes Strollers, Glenrothes Rugby Club and Rory the Mascot of Raith Rovers FC.

Chef Dhaneshwar Prasad at Handi Restaurant has created a menu of dishes using the finest seasonal produce. Handi features distinctive regional Indian cuisine from savory street food and breads, to tantalising vegetable specialties and fragrant curries, to signature tandoor-grilled meats and seafood.

Dishes at Handi features a new plating style, which is unlike anything diners will have ever seen before.

Golden Fried Stuffed Mushroom

Locally sourced fresh mushrooms stuffed with cheese & marinated and cooked in a crispy batter

Sharing platter of Indian treats: 

Kesari Murg Tikka pieces with a mango sauce, deep-fried Mushroom Bhaji, Handi King prawns, Lamb Boti Kebab – Sucullent diced Lamb marinated in chef special and char grilled.

Our  opinion: Simply one of the best Indian food ever tasted bursting with unique flavours  and textures.  Excellent customer service.
