Iconic Edinburgh restaurant Contini on George Street, has relaunched after a £250k refurbishment, with a brand-new menu, décor and dining experience.
At Contini, they’re all about family and have been offering their customers a fantastic food and drink experience in Edinburgh for decades. Victor and Carina Contini own three award-winning restaurants in different locations around Edinburgh; Contini George Street, Cannonball Restaurant & Bar at the top of The Royal Mile and The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant underneath The Scottish National Gallerieson Princes Street.
HOMAGE TO ITALY
The revamp sees the interior of the 4,500-square foot former banking hall transformed, with sumptuous booths in soft grey leather, an open bar area, a more open airier room and striking wall hangings depicting Italian frescos.
The Italian Bar has been transformed into a very casual but striking place to sit and enjoy a pre-dinner drink or just a coffee. No reservations will be required in this area.
FOOD THAT HAS EVOLVED
Eating habits are constantly changing, so the dining scene has to evolve to keep up with new trends and demands. Old days when the culture of ordering an individual starter, main course and dessert, are long gone and customers are looking now for more relaxing, informal dining experiences. People’s lifestyles have also changed dramatically, so they are looking for a lighter, healthier option. Contini is one of the restaurants that understands the new generation, and the latest changes in their restaurant interior and food offering proves that.
FRESHLY PREPARED SMALL PLATES TO SHARE
Sharing is caring as they say and the new concept of dining at Contini George Street is all about people sharing and eating together. Ordering many small plates of different food with some new exciting offerings and refined old favourites is meant to help diners feel at home.
The new menu has been carefully designed to offer many different tastes and flavours. You will not see traditional Italian dishes like pizza, lasagne or spaghetti, instead, delicious dishes cooked to order and served as soon as they are ready. You’ll still find many of the old favourites on the menu, but served in a very contemporary way.

“When we first opened, our menu was a reflection of the Italian food passed on to us from our grandparents – hearty meals like lasagne, pizza, and carbonara. While these are all delicious, the way people eat has changed” – Carina Contini

“Now, guests want to try lots of different dishes, sharing them with friends rather than ordering a traditional starter, main course and pudding. So we have created a menu with sharing in mind, featuring fresh, delicious flavor combinations, which still showcase the very best Italian ingredients and the pick of Scotland’s larder.” – Carina
