The Refinery is the newest, glamorous addition to Edinburgh’s drinking and dining scene. Located in the heart of Scotland’s capital, the 2-floor restaurant and bar is sure to delight both locals and visitors.
The Refinery is brought to you by Drake & Morgan – the group behind some of the most popular London bars and restaurants, that includer The Folly, The Fable, The Parlour and The Anthologist.
On 24th November the Refinery opened it’s doors to the public and we were there! As we walked in, the atmosphere was electric and the restaurant was already buzzing!
The Refinery is spread across 2 beautifully designed floors, separated by a show-stopping spiral staircase, and see through ground to ceiling glass windows. The stylish interior decor combines factory elements like exposed bricks and pipes, with truly Scottish twists, such as a highland cow mural, comfortable armchairs draped in fur and stag head mounts.
We decided to explore ground floor first. At the front there is a long main bar, with a casual dining area, where all the cocktails and canapes were served. At the back there was an open kitchen plan where you could see the chef’s preparing delicious samples of what will be on offer at the Refinery.
Curiosity took us upstairs to the restaurant’s library lounge where we had an amazing view on to St Andrews Square.
Some people, despite the chilly evening, decided to sit on the al fresco terrace, where blankets and hot water bottles were provided to keep guest warm.
I don’t consider myself as a cocktail connoisseur, but for sure the cocktails at The Refinery were above the normal standards and the friendly staff behind the bar helped me choose the one that suited me the best.
You can also book one of their Cocktail Masterclasses through their website and their mixology experts will take you on a journey, where you will learn tips and tricks before making your own cocktails at home.
We sampled only mini versions of what is on offer at The Refinery, but the varied menu has plenty of options to please everyone. Starting from delicious wagyu burgers, superfood salads, crusted chicken with polenta or lamb chops – you can expect your all-time favourite dishes. There is also a good selection of indulgent desserts.
The Refinery is open 7 days a week and it’s the perfect venue for your business breakfast or romantic dinner date and it’s very welcomed addition to the fantastic Edinburgh’s Food & Drink scene.
