British people love a good cuppa and it always fascinated me why do we drink so much of it?
“On average we each drink 3½ cups of tea a day, or 130,000 tonnes in a year, 96 per cent of which are from tea bags. As a nation we drink 165 million cups per day or 62 billion cups per year; 70 per cent of the population (over the age of 10) drank tea yesterday; over 25 per cent of all the milk consumed in the UK goes in your cups of tea”*(source).
Edinburgh locals may know the name Eteaket. Their Tea Room is open on Frederick Street Mon – Sat 9-6pm, where they serve teas, tea-inspired beverages and tasty treats to go with your tea. You can also grab a light lunch or sandwich, for people with a sweet tooth they serve a whole range of delicious cakes.
Not long after hosting a night of innovation at their Tea Room in 2015, they decided to create a place where people can experience the full potential of tea. That’s how the idea of an innovative tea shop was born. On 9th November team behind Eteaket decided to redefine British tea culture and opened an artisan tea shop where tea lovers can sample the tea before they buy.
At the store they use the latest innovative brewing methods and accessories, that allow them to experiment and show customers what they can do with the tea. They also organise hot and cold tea tasting, tea latte demonstrations, and a tasting table in the middle of the store allows you to choose and taste the most suitable flavour for yourself. They even have cold brew teas on tap!
You can choose from more than 33 varieties of loose-leaf tea, sourced from all over the world. They have also a large selection of teapots, mugs and gift sets.
“We decided that we really wanted to rekindle Britain’s love affair with proper leaf tea. So in December 2008 the doors of the Eteaket Tea Room opened in Edinburgh along with our online store. Our journey has taken us on our own tea pilgrimage to China, India, Sri Lanka and Japan in search of the best leaves and we have been privileged enough to have met some of the best Tea Masters and teachers in the world along the way”.
The Eteaket store is based at 111 Rose Street, Edinburgh, and is open seven days a week from 11am to 6pm. To celebrate the opening of the store, Eteaket are offering a 15% discount off ‘build your own gift sets’ over £30 up until the end of December 2016.
